 introducing chicks
« Result #2 on Mar 25, 2005, 3:39am »

I purchased Two Chicks 3-4 weeks ago. Since they have gotten too big for the box they were in I put them in the coop I built. I got 2 more this week. When they get bigger, will they get along in the coop with the others. These are the only chickens, there are no other older ones. Thanx for any replys.

sorry to hear that she could have some nerve damage. I am not really sure what else it could be, but it sounds like you are giving her excelent care

 Chicken can't walk
« Result #4 on Dec 8, 2004, 10:51pm »

We found one of our 6 month old cochins stuck between two nesting boxes. She is now unable to walk. I have brought her into the house and daily work with her, moving her legs to keep them limber. She has nothing broken nor visibly injured, but she cannot stand. She has a healthy appetite, and flaps her wings when I pick her up. Any idea what her problem is, and will she get better? By the way, she loves a warm bath. And when I exercise her legs, she closes her eyes and enjoys it.

Hello All, My name is Marco, and I am new to the chicken world. I'm "chicken sitting" my wife's three hens while she & my daughter visit relatives for the holiday. The weather is going down to the teens at night this weekend, and I'm wondering if I should insulate the chicken's living space. They are housed in a corner of our barn, elevated about 3.5 ft off the ground. They have shelter from the wind, but I'm considering insulating (underneath) thier floor/platform. Is this a worthwhile project ??? Should I not worry about the low temps...Thanks for your help, Marcopolo

We have our chickens as pets - or I should say that these resident chickens have us as servants. ;D

We love them and spoil them. I have found that their favorite treats are dandelion leaves, those timy little pastas called rosamarina, and also brown rice. So yes, I cook for them as a special treat! Yikes. Good thing we don't have many. It would take way too much time for all of the chicken holding and petting every day (which they love, even the roosters).

We named our 2 new girls according to their personalities too. Precious is a soft cuddly little hen who loves to be held. She closes her eyes and makes little squeak noises and is so precious! Mona, on the other hand, is a little spark plug who hops around (looks like a windup toy) and makes goose-like honking sounds, only at a higher pitch. When she's not doing that, she moans. Irritates our little bantam English Game mini-roo and he gets his hackles up at her. She shuts up for maybe 15 seconds. ;D
